My Experience With Intermittent Fasting

For over two years now, I’ve been practicing intermittent fasting, and it has profoundly transformed my relationship with food and my body. My journey with fasting has not only been about health and wellness but has also unfolded into a deeper spiritual and magical practice. Through this experience, I’ve learned to embrace emptiness, discern between hunger and craving, and achieve a heightened state of awareness and productivity.

Embracing Emptiness and Receptivity


Intermittent fasting has taught me to find comfort in emptiness, transforming what many might consider a void into a space of receptivity and renewal. When my body is in a fasted state, free from the constant influx of food, it enters a mode of stillness and healing. This emptiness is not about deprivation but about creating a sacred space within myself. It’s about allowing my body to reset and recalibrate, tapping into the profound energy that comes from within rather than from external sources.

Differentiating Hunger, Craving, and Fulfillment

Over time, intermittent fasting teaches you to recognize the subtle differences between hunger, cravings, and true satiety:


  • Hunger: This is a physical sensation indicating that your body needs nutrients. It’s a signal that your energy reserves are running low and it’s time to refuel.
  • Cravings: These are often psychological or emotional. They can be triggered by stress, boredom, or even just the sight or smell of food. Cravings are not about nutritional needs but rather about seeking comfort or distraction.
  • Fulfillment: This is the state where your body feels nourished and satisfied. True fulfillment comes from eating nutrient-dense foods that your body needs. It’s a balanced state where you no longer feel the urge to eat more because your body has received what it requires.


Enhanced Productivity and Elevated States


Fasting has also enhanced my productivity and meditative practices. In a fasted state, my mind feels clearer and more focused. Without the energy-draining process of constant digestion, I can direct my mental and physical energy towards more productive and meaningful activities. Meditation becomes deeper, and I enter a heightened state of awareness, connecting more profoundly with my inner self and the world around me.

The Power of Three-Day Fasts


Incorporating three-day fasts into my routine has further deepened this journey. These extended fasts are more challenging, especially around the second day when the body switches from burning glycogen to fat. This metabolic shift brings physical discomfort and emotional turbulence as stored toxins and limiting beliefs rise to the surface.


During these three-day fasts, I encounter:


  • Detoxification: My body releases accumulated toxins, which can manifest as anxiety or physical discomfort.
  • Emotional Release: Without food to distract me, I face my emotions head-on, dealing with unresolved feelings that surface.
  • Spiritual Clarity: As I move beyond the initial hurdles, I find a profound sense of peace and clarity, using this time for deep reflection and setting future intentions.

Practical Tips for Enhancing Your Fasting Journey


To fully benefit from fasting, consider these practical tips:


  1. Mindful Eating: Focus on nutrient-dense foods that nourish your body. Pay attention to how different foods make you feel.
  2. Hydration: Drink plenty of water and herbal teas to support your body’s detoxification process.
  3. Journaling: Keep a journal to track your feelings and experiences, helping you identify patterns related to cravings and emotional eating.
  4. Meditation and Breathing: Incorporate meditation and deep breathing exercises to manage stress and enhance mental clarity.
  5. Gradual Refeeding: After an extended fast, reintroduce food slowly and mindfully to avoid overwhelming your digestive system.
